Brief description:
This project offered a series of arts activities to improve participants’ mental health and wellbeing, led by professional arts and health drama workers. This short term research project was offered in conjunction with Platform, funded by the Scottish Arts Council and delivered by Scottish Development Centre for Mental Health.
Aims:
To develop the evidence base for community referral to the arts as an alternative, and compliment, to traditional therapeutic interventions and offer a framework for social prescribing for use by health care providers.
What’s happening:
A six month pilot in East Glasgow has been developed with professional artists and rolled out with referrals from PCMHT (Primary Care Mental Health Team), and voluntary sector partners, to improve mental well-being through drama.
Evaluation and feedback:
Scottish Development Centre for Mental Health (SDC) are working with PMA and the pilot sites to produce a research report. This will be made available with recommendations and tools for health care providers to establish arts on referral programmes.
Partners:
- Positive Mental Attitudes (PMA)
