‘At times during my illness I felt the stigma I got from friends and workmates was actually worse than the illness. If only people would try to understand, I wish they could see me and not the illness’
                                                                                     John, 41

The success of our programme, and a key element of our work, draws upon real peoples’ experiences of mental health problems and, in a number of cases, their active involvement with PMA.

Whether as a trainer, sessional worker or a participant in the creative arts groups, getting involved with PMA can promote personal recovery and, crucially, ensures the work we do is developed and delivered in response to real peoples’ experiences.

National campaigns, such as "see me", have raised public awareness of the stigma attached to mental health problems, however many people still face prejudice and discrimination.

If you have a personal experience of stigma or discrimination because of mental health problems, we’d like to hear from you. It is easy to tell us your story, and we can put it to good use in developing a better understanding of mental health and well being.
